Every Past Connection Can Be A Hero In A Horse's Story

Twenty-plus years ago, just after the final race of Stalwart Member on December 13, 2003, something extraordinary, envisioned by Susan Kayne and funded by Sandy Goldfarb, Stally's esteemed owner, came into being. Sandy's profound concern for Stally's well-being post-racing ignited the creation of Unbridled Thoroughbred Foundation, known today as Unbridled Sanctuary.

Sandy's commitment to Stally was more than just a 'one-off'; it was a promise of lifelong protection and dignity, which he fulfilled until Stally's peaceful passing. Today, Sandy continues to inspire us as a Director at Unbridled. His remarkable generosity and steadfast dedication have not only helped to shape our mission but have also deeply touched the lives of every horse we've been privileged to care for.

Since our inception, Unbridled has safeguarded Thoroughbreds from all walks of life.  Whether they are in desperate need of a lifeline out of the slaughter pipeline, a soft landing, a safe haven to layover, a place to recover, or a lifelong home in Sanctuary – they have a friend in US. 

Inspired by Sandy, and our founder Susan Kayne's commitment to the horses they have bred and races, we created the Past Connections Project, to better protect these majestic creatures through the impactful participation of their past connections.

We warmly invite all PC's: Breeders, Owners, Trainers, Jockeys, Sales Agents, Sales Companies, Grooms, Caretakers, Fans, etc., to become a guardian at the heart of the future for their beloved horses.  

The Thoroughbreds in our care, including the magnificent one you may have a deep connection with – whether you were the breeder who brought them into this world, the owner who cherished their presence, the buyer or seller who saw their potential, the handler who presented them at auction, the groom who tended to them daily, the jockey who partnered with them on the track, the trainer who honed their skills, or one of many who stood proudly in the Winner’s Circle – now, they rely on US for specialized care that goes well beyond the basics.

Unbridled Sanctuary currently provides a safe haven for 55 Thoroughbreds. The daily care and well-being of each horse come at a cost of $26 per day. This equates to a daily expense of $1,500, a weekly outlay of $10,500, a monthly cost of $42,000, and an annually $500,000+.  

At Unbridled Sanctuary, every Thoroughbred enjoys the comfort of their own stall, an individual feed and supplement program to meet their unique needs. Dailys regimens include Adequan, Bute, Manna Pro, Cocosoya, Gut-X, Legend, Prescend, Oste-Max, and Ulcer-Guard. along with other veterinary-recommended joint supplements and gastric support products.  This meticulous care results in an annual consumption of over 600,000 pounds of hay and grain, ensuring that each horse at Unbridled receives the utmost in nutrition and care.
